IRA accounts: a practical note
The IRA custodian application accommodates up to six beneficiaries. If you need to name more than six, you can do so by submitting a supplemental paper beneficiary designation form after your account is established. Contact support at IRA Resources for the correct form.
Solo 401(k) accounts
The Solo 401(k) plan documents do not impose a cap on the number of beneficiaries you can designate. Name as many as your plan requires across both primary and contingent positions.
Allocation requirements
Regardless of how many beneficiaries you name, the percentage shares you assign must add up to 100% within each tier. This applies to primary designations and contingent designations separately. For example, if you name three primary beneficiaries, their combined allocation must equal 100%.
