Are my funds safe with Self-Directed Plans?

Updated Jul 23, 20262 min read

Quick answer

Self-Directed Plans never holds, receives, or controls client funds at any point. Our role is to set up and maintain your plan structure. Your money stays in accounts you control.

Where your funds are held

When you fund an IRA-based plan, your money moves directly to IRA Resources, the IRA custodian. From there, it is transferred to the bank account of your IRA LLC, IRA Trust. Self-Directed Plans is not a party to either of those transactions.

For a Solo 401(k), funds move directly into the plan's bank account. There is no custodian involved, and Self-Directed Plans has no access to or control over that account.

What we do and do not do

Self-Directed Plans is a plan formation and document services company. We prepare your plan documents, coordinate setup, and support ongoing plan administration. We are not a custodian, trustee, or fiduciary, and we have no discretionary access to your plan funds at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Self-Directed Plans have access to my bank account?
No. Your plan's bank account is opened in your plan's name, and you are the authorized signer. Self-Directed Plans has no access to that account.

What happens to my plan if Self-Directed Plans closes?
Your funds remain exactly where they are. Your IRA stays with IRA Resources, and your plan's bank account remains in your name. The plan documents we prepared continue to govern the plan.

Is Self-Directed Plans a fiduciary?
No. Self-Directed Plans is not a trustee, custodian, administrator, or fiduciary. We provide structure and documentation, not investment oversight or fund management.
